A man of habit, former South Dakota farm-boy Ed Houtkooper is an early riser, sometimes arriving at 37 Graham as early as 5:00 a.m. Our resident curmudgeon and Ph.D., Ed graduated from the University of South Dakota and, with a love of learning, quietly earned enough degrees to fill a notebook. After thirty years of work in the medical field, he retired only to resurface a few months later at Hamilton Zanze.
As part-time Supply Manager and full-time Investor Relations Associate, Ed tracks the thousands of pages of closing documents necessary with an acquisition or disposition. His face is probably the most familiar face to our investors because, as a Public Notary, Ed ensures that documents are properly signed and properly delivered. One day without Ed around the office and we quickly learn why he is essential to the HZC team: he is the glue that holds our business together.
Happily leaving his snow shovel behind, Ed arrived in San Francisco in 1963. A year later, he met and married his wife of 47 years, becoming the patriarch of two children and six grand children. When asked about clubs or fraternal organizations, Ed proudly says HZC and his grandchildren are all the clubs he needs.
